Midnight by Edward Adrian Wilson in Antarctica
In 1902 Wilson was on the infamous Discovery Expedition and also on the Terra Nova Expedition in 1912 where he lost his life.
The above work, which shows the Antarctic landscape at midnight, is a beautiful piece. It shows the subtleties and beauty of an otherwise stark landscape. It puts you right there with them on the expedition even before photographic techniques would allow this sort of capture.
