1986-001 by Victor van Kooten in Lesvos, Greece.
Last year when I was visiting MoMA in New York City I had the privilege to see an excellent exhibit of Picasso’s work ranging from the early years all the way up to cubism.
One thing you notice while observing an artist’s work over decades is how much their work changes. It is obvious, to me, that van Kooten’s work has changed dramatically over the years — and these changes are apparent on his site.
The piece I choose speaks to me in a number of ways. I think the expression on the subject is pretty great; stern, direct, intentional. The rest of it all just comes together nicely.
