I like to think of this piece as the piece Hester did right before she thought she was going to die. Hester, whose profile looked a lot like Peggy Olson from Mad Men, was only 19 when she created this piece. It was right before she got married, had a child, and was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma – all of which had a profound affect on her art.
