Goat by Arvydas Baltinas in Lithuania

Goat by Arvydas Baltinas in Lithuania.

I do my best, but some artists are very difficult to research. I had to hunt for quite a while to find Baltinas’ Facebook profile and even that didn’t reveal much more than his full name.

Anyway, The Watercolor Gallery isn’t only about the artists (though I try very hard to give the proper credit and as many links as possible for each work) it is about the inspiration one can get from a watercolor painting.

For me, the simplicity of Baltinas’ watercolor work is what is the most inspiring. Mostly single color, very simple watercolors of animals. I chose this particular piece because I think it shows off what Baltinas is trying to accomplish the most. He goes back and forth between focusing on the entire animal or just a portion of it – and I think, in reality, he does this to focus the attention on the part of the animal he finds most interesting. The head of this goat, presumably, is the most interesting part of the goat to Baltinas. For his other works, perhaps he finds the entire animal interesting or just their skeleton, or something else.

Of course, I could be dead wrong. He might just choose which part of the animal to paint completely at random. But I’d like to think I’m right. It seems so much more genius that way.

Besides this goat, I recommend you check out the seahorse, pigand fishbone.

Update: Arvydas messaged me to say that he’s from Lithuania, not Moscow as I reported above. Thanks Arvydas!
